Internet safety: 10 rules to keep you safe
These rules are very easy to follow and they minimize the risks of suffering from any type of fraud. You can share them with family and friends!
1) Be sure that banks, services, and stores never send letters asking them to follow the link, change their password, enter a bank card number, and a secret confirmation code or provide other personal data!
2) Disconnect Siri on the iPhone. Most likely, you do not use it, but the scammers have already learned how to withdraw money via the Internet bank using voice commands.
3) The pages for entering confidential information of any serious service are always protected, and the data is transmitted in encrypted form. The site address should begin with “https: //”, which a green padlock near it.
4) Install and update antivirus software. Outdated versions cannot guarantee protection against malware. Every day, several new viruses appear in the world, so the antivirus needs to get information about how to combat them as often as possible.
5) Click on links that came in messages from strangers – a sure way to fall for the bait of cyber fraudsters and infect your device with viruses. A dangerous link can come from a hacked friend, so it’s better to clarify what he sent to you and whether to open it.
6) If you received a request from a friend with a request to send money urgently, do not send anything! Call him first and make sure that the account has not been hacked by intruders.
7) Back up your data regularly. Follow the “3-2-1” rule: create one primary copy and two backups. Save two copies on different physical media, and one in the cloud storage. Do not forget to backup all devices: smartphones, tablets, computers/laptops.
8) In order to never lose money on inconspicuous payments, do not buy additional services by mistake and pay exactly for the necessary ones, always read the rules before ticking the “agree” checkbox and proceed to payment.
9) If in the secret question you indicated the mother’s maiden name, which is now publicly available on her pages on social networks, be sure to change the secret question.
10) For some applications and services, a free trial period is provided (for example, for 2-3 months), after which you must disconnect the service yourself. If you do not, the subscription can be automatically renewed and will be paid, and money will be debited from the card indicated during registration.
